My
Story

IMG_2693_edited.png

My full name is Juan Carlos Rios Jr. and I am a self-taught designer out of Arizona. Inspired from designers like Martin Margiela and Virgil Abloh, my mission is to upcycle garments into "new" unique one of one pieces because fashion has an enormous environmental impact on our planet, as well as social ones. Fashion is responsible for roughly 14 million tons of clothing and textiles ending up in landfills each year. 10 percent of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions and 20 percent of global wastewater are also a root-problem caused by fashion thanks to large corporations. Creating unique one of one pieces by upcycling old garments into a new sustainable one is how I approach my due diligence in limiting waste and emissions for our planet. Not only does upcycling create a sustainable feature in fashion by reducing waste for the planet but it also challenges my own creativity and allows me to express myself and my likings through fashion to the world. The name CHAP is coined from a former University of Arizona basketball player named Rondae Hollis-Jefferson who uses the acronym to mean "Calm, Humble And Patient".  I myself am a University of Arizona alumni (Go Wildcats!) and took inspiration to his motto. I use the acronym to describe my brand as, Stitched with Craft, High-quality, And Precision. Stitched with CHAP.
